The largest investment of the 19th century is even today symbol of the city. The Parliament building, seat of the National Assembly and goverment offices, is waiting for the visitors. Accesible only by guided tours in groups. You can walk along the corridors and rooms of this eclectical masterpiece. This is the 3rd largest Parliament in the world which houses the Hungarian Holy Crown as well. A tour with a local guide lasts 45 minutes.

The largest fresh water lake of Central Europe is situated 100 km away from Budapest. Besides swimming and sunbathing Lake Balaton awaits you with many other programmes. On the northern shore of the lake cities of the historical Hungary are to be found such as Tihany, Szigliget, Keszthely. Tihany Abbey is the oldest church of the region where the charter of the abbey, the first written record of the Hungarian language (1051) is kept. From the small hill where the abbey stands visitors can enjoy a stunning panorama. In the small village you can take a nice walk and can purchase products of local craftsmen. Szigliget the well-known settlement of the Badacsony wine region is waiting for the visitors. In the wine cellar of the noble Eszterházy family you can taste local wines, enjoy traditional meals and listen to authentic gypsy music. After lunch there is a possibility to visit the 3rd largest chateau in the country, the Festetics Mansion in Keszthely.

One of the most beautiful Baroque buildings of the country is to be found in Gödöllő (30 km from Budapest). The palace renowned for its association with Queen Elisabeth, wife of Franz Joseph, emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The palace was the favourite residence of the Queen, affectionately called Sissi by Hungarians. In the lovingly restored mansion the Royal suites with original furnishing, the stateroom, exhibitions and a Baroque theatre can be visited. You can take a relaxing walk in the English style Elisabeth Park around the palace.
