In the southest wine region of Hungary even the Romans did viticulture. Settling down the Svabians in the 18th century, brought serious development in viticulture and wine making. That time the famous cellar rows were built . The history of our winery started 7 generations ago and we had to take a long journey which was challenging and required great diligence. We had to respect the traditions but also develop and apply experimental aspect. This way we established the present – in Hungary and abroad well known – GERE brand. Nowadays the estate size of our family reaches 70 hectares and the young generation also takes part in the everyday of the winery. Attila Gere and his wife Katalin farmed only on a few acres of vineyard. In 1991 Attila Gere gave up his profession and established Gere family enterprise, which is nowadays one of the most known wineries in Hungary. In 1994 Attila Gere was awarded with the honourable title “Wine Maker of the Year” as acknowledgement of his work . In 2002 GERE winery’s new ageing cellar and factory was finished. The technological conditions in this facility complies with the most modern requirements.  Since 2010 the winery exclusively produces chemicals-free, organic viticulture. During our wine preparation we strive to preserve and express the most characteristic countryside scents and flavors. Therefore, during the processing technology we keep the most human acting.

Catering

In 1991 Gere pension was opened. It was the first accommodation in Villány.  In October 2008 CROCUS GERE WINE HOTEL was opened. This is a four star  family wine and wellness hotel. This way we managed to match the level of catering to the quality of Gere wines.

One wine region - three wineries

Attile Gere winery

The own wines of the family winery, are distributed under the name of GERE. Basic Wines gives the lighter, fruitier wines of our portfolio (FRICI White, FRICI Rosé, Italian rizling, Portugieser, Athus Cuvée, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). Stepping higher on the pyramid the more serious Estate Wines come which we mark with elegant, white and black labels (Cabernet Sauvignon barrique, Syrah). On the top there are our 3 Top Wines (Kopar, Solus, Attila).

Gere-Weninger Winery

The wines of the Villányi winery which is mutually owned with Franz Weninger Austrian wine maker. These are distributed with a label family which has own design. The wines are made by Gere family, so in the oenology and wine making philosophy there are no differences to GERE wines. The difference lurks in the plantations. The lighter and full bodied wines can be also found here.  (Rosé, Phoenix Cuvée, Pinot Noir, Tinta, Cabernet Franc Selection).

Csillagvölgy Winery

In 2010 Attila Gere and Vilmos Schubert established a mutual winery in Villány. The aim was to create fresh, fruity – but also matterful – wines from the excellent grapes of the wine region. The selection of the winery is given by reductive, light, aerial wines made in steel tanks. The majority of the are white and rosé wines. The winery distribute its wines under separate brand and design. (Sauvignon Blanc, Cserszegi Fűszeres, Irsai Olivér, Olaszrizling, Rosé, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon).
